New GGC Clipart

Hello there! Surprise Surprise! another post so soon...I know, shocker! lol  I came across some new Girl Guides of Canada clipart recently and thought I would share my findings.  This clipart has the updated GGC uniforms.

I think the new clipart is really nice and colourful! I like it!
Thanks GGC, the Guiders appreciate it!

Clipart can be used in many ways: in newsletters, notes to parents, scrapbooking, smashbooking, websites, blogs, general crafting, or to promote GGC.  Use your imagination!

I wonder who the artist is? Does anyone know?
These images were downloaded from GGC Brand Centre.

Have a nice day and Happy Guiding!

Cookie Song book and colouring pages

It's Cookie time!
The delicious Chocolately Mint cookies are here!
...this pile of cookies is in my living room! The delivery went smooth this time...the guy called the day before and the hour before...and no major damages on the cases {just a few scuffs and a minor tear on one box...not bad!}

I made this cookie song booklet a few years ago for my Brownies but it can be used by all branches.  I posted this on my old website but I offer more detail of how to make it here.  {I did not write these songs...they were found online over the years.  Maybe GGC issued them but I am not sure.  If you know please leave a comment}. I have the pdf available if you are interested.

Songs include:
I like Vanilla {tune: I like the flowers}
Mary had some Girl Guide Cookies {tune: Mary had a little lamb}
New Baker, New Design {tune: Make New Friends}
It's Cookie time! {tune: O Christmas Tree}
Girl Guides Cookies {tune: Three Blind Mice}
Itsy Bitsy Girl Guide {tune: Itsy Bitsy Spider}
Cookie Chant {tune: A tisket A tasket}

* Please note that a couple of the songs have the old price of $4 in the lyrics...before you make copies you may want to update the lyrics to five/$5.  Let's hope that the cookie price does not go over $5 !!

This is how it looks when printed out.
Then you will need to cut it into thirds.  I have lines marked in pink below. {Mark lines at 88 mm from the bottom and then 176 mm from the bottom if you need exact measurements for cutting}.
Fold the pages in half and arrange them in whatever order you like. {Another option is to print/photocopy double sided then you will not have as much folding to do}.

Arrange the pages so that the folded edge is on the right-hand side...open ends will be stapled.
Line up the pages inside and staple along the left side two or three times.
The girls may colour the pages as they like...then sing away!

These song tunes may or may not be familiar to all girls these days...but the tune below is most likely a fav of our Girl Guides...It was written 28 March 2013 by my Guides as part of the Music Fan badge. Check it out!

Tune: Call Me Maybe by Carly Rae Jepsen
{sing verses in this order: 1, 2, 1, 3}

1.  Hey ! All those cookies!

2.  Yummy Chocolate Mint

And plain old Chocolate

3.  Girl Guides sell them

Buy them quickly
Before they're all gone

GGC Clipart update

Hello! It has been HOT the past couple of days here in Nova Scotia! The humidity is a killer !  Thank goodness that we got an Air Conditioner for this summer!

While sitting in front of the computer in the nice cool air conditioned house {woo hooo!} I was surfing on the Unofficial Girl Guides of Canada facebook site and Sarah Y inquired about the GGC clipart..."Does anyone know where I can find GG clip art with the new uniforms? The brand centre only has the older clip art with the older uniforms...".

I love the GGC Clipart so I use it on this blog and for activities that I do with my Guides.  I too have been searching for GGC Clipart that is updated to suit the new uniform but nothing was found...so..."necessity is the mother of invention"! or in this case "mother of updating"!  I have been slowly...I stress slowly... updating some of the clipart as needed.

In no way am I claiming that this is my artwork...I simply changed the colours...and in some cases changed the neck to be a V neck and added the coloured trim on the sleeves and waist.  If I am not permitted to do this GGC please let me know. Thanks! I ♥ your clipart!

Here are a few of the updates that I have...

Updated to suit new Sparks Uniform

Updated to suit new Brownie Uniform

Updated to suit new Guide Uniform

I will post my updates as I do them...it is a tedious job to change the colours...and there are many images in the GGC Clipart collection.

Thanks Sarah Y for the post inspiration!

Hope you are all enjoying your Summer so far!

Paper Bag Scrapbook

Hey there Blogland! Last night was our last Guide meeting until September.  I will truly miss my girls until the Fall.  The past couple of years have been really good in terms of having nice, well behaved kids.  I know, they are only kids, but I'm sure you Guiders know what I am talking about.  We were blessed with a great group of girls..no bullies...no whiners...no hypers... and they all got along well together {knock on wood for the Fall lol}.  We had a few extremely quiet girls...one extremely outgoing girl...and the rest in between...and I noticed on several occassions over the past year how some of the girls went "out of their way" to encourage the quiet girls.  Moments like that is what truly motivates me to return to Guiding each year. Anyhoo, we had a Pizza and Scrapbooking night to end our season which was really fun!

Here is a sample of our Scrapbook...
 We made the scrapbook out of these...paper Lunch Bags!

 Three bags...arranged by alternating open and flap ends.

The flap on right side of the bag labelled '1' gets glued down.  This will be the inside of the back cover.  The flap on the left side of the second bag gets cut.    The third bag has the flap on the right, which gets cut off.  {It really doesn't matter how you place the bags..this is just how I did ours...[update added* and you do not necessarily need to cut the flaps...they can all be glued down but then you will have less pockets]}.  Then place all three bags on top of each other and carefully fold them so that the ends line up..then give a good crease in the center...bag 1 on the bottom...bag 2 in the middle...bag 3 on top.

Then staple together...

You can see here how the pockets are created to hold photo cards.

The inspirational scrapbook was found on Pinterest.  I, of course, changed the look of the scrapbook.  I used tabs attached to cardstock squares instead of the ribbon used in the original version {I found it difficult to staple the ribbon to the card..it just didn't work for me}.  However, I did not have enough tabs for all 15 girls so I ended up precutting cards to look like this...

Photos were glued to these cardstock cards...they can easily be pulled out of the pockets for viewing.  They are not attached to the scrapbook.  All of this cardstock was in my "scrap" basket...the only thing I had to purchase for this project was paper lunch bags. {Hubby printed out the photos at work. You could use real photo prints but I think they would be a little heavy}.
I used the Girl Guides of Canada Clipart images and created  these sheets in Microsoft Word...I ♥ this artwork.  I do not know the name of the artist...do you?
The GGC clipart is so cute!  I also added some doodles with a white paint marker {but I did not do the doodles until after our night was over since I did not have enough paint markers for everyone...they are a bit pricey! so the girls used regular markers and coloured pencils}.
...and added google eyes...the girls loved the google eyes...
these are peel and stick from Walmart years ago.

This clipart image was laminated using packing tape..then I added 3D pop dots.  {I did not do this step with the girls since I did not have enough 3D pop dots to go around}.  I also added craft tape with washi tape on top...and more glitter/gem stickers from Dollarama {the name on the package is Glitter but they are little round gem stickers}
More google eyes to add some fun!  These look so funky!  I again added craft tape and glitter stickers...I did not have enough craft tape and glitter/gem stickers for the girls so this part was done after the meeting.
Yes, I went a little "crazy" with the glitter/gem stickers and craft tape!
...more craft tape
Top view showing the pockets.
Craft tape adds flair doesn't it!
{you can see I have some thin teal
Washi tape here but I later removed it}.
The craft tape also adds support to the spine.

The Guides had a blast making
these easy, inexpensive super fun Scrapbooks.
They all turned out unique in their own way!

Our meeting location is now under major renovations and will not be ready until September.  As a result, the Sparks, Brownies, and Guides had to remove ALL belongings from the hall...3 cupboards and all it's contents.  Fire Owl found a location to store all the Brownies stuff and my hubby's friend is allowing us to use his barn to store the Guides' cupboards...all the contents of the Guides' cupboard and all the Sparks stuff is now in my living room.  I know...remember one of my posts from last summer ...Craft Room Chaos Part 1...well my craft room is 90% done but once again I am bombarded with Girl Guide stuff! LOL...It's a never ending story my friends.

Canadian Guiding Lapbook

Canadian Guiding Badge

Here is the continuation of the World Guiding Lapbook.  A second folder was added to the original World Guiding lapbook to make room for Canadian Guiding badge work.  It mostly covers the part about finding 10 facts about Canadian Girl Guides history. {However, World and Canadian content spills through both sides of  the lapbook}

 World Guiding and Canadian Guiding
Badges Lapbook

Ten facts about GGC in pictures!
Lady Baden-Powell facts Wheel
You can see I added pictures on coloured paper {sticky notes from Dollarama...in neon colours, which I must say are back from the 80's!} and created peek-a-boo facts underneath.  This allows room for more pictures.

The front cover
I had a bunch of these stickers left over from 2010.  They were issued to GGC Units for the 100th Anniversary!  They add lots of colour and can also describe things that we do in Girl Guides. {You can see a pocket was created...purely by accident..that is the beauty of lapbooks, they all turn out differently!}
  Lapbooking is an activity that offers learning in a fun and creative way!  The girls get a Girl Guide History lesson but they see it as crafting!
