WAGGGS Regions/World Centre minibooks

Hello Guiders and Owls...
Some of you are wondering about the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts Regions, aka WAGGGS Regions.

There are 10 million members of WAGGGS  in 145 countries around the world.  The countries are located in five regions.

The five WAGGGS Regions are:
Africa Arab Asia Pacific Europe Western Hemisphere

This map shows the regions by colour.

Go here to learn more about the Regions and how they work. Go here to access a drop down menu to find detailed information about the WAGGGS Member Organizations {145 countries listed}.

Recently I had edited my Four World Centres minibook to make it usable by all WAGGGS Regions. I use this minibook as a passport for a World Thinking Day meeting activity. {I made coordinating posters that I place around the meeting space as a round robin style meeting}.

The first photo is my original World Centres minibook which has the CWFF page, Pax Lodge, Our Chalet, Sangam, Our Cabana, and WAGGGS page {plus the front and back covers}.
The remaining minibook photos show the regional logos in place of the Canadian World Friendship Fund page.  If you find this minibook activity useful then let me know and I will send you the pdf.

I did a google search for WAGGGS Region logo images and found these: {I could not find a detailed logo for Arab Region nor Europe Region...and could not find a colour coded logo for Asia Pacific Region...so if you happen to find them please leave a comment}.

Note: There is a fifth World Centre Pilot project that
could potentially lead to a fifth World Centre in Africa.
Check out this WAGGGS page for more details.

"The project will be evaluated, with results and
recommendations presented at the
35th World Conference in Hong Kong in 2014".

Have a great day!
Thanks for visiting Owl & Toadstool

Update 10 March 2014:
I now have the colour logo for the Asia Pacific Region thanks to Carol B. for sending a link!  I also made mini-books with coloured logos for the Western Hemisphere Region and Africa Region.  If you would like to request these files just send me an email {see my profile} and state which version you would like; the detailed logo , the coloured logo, no logo, CWFF version {or all versions}.

This version would be good if you have the Region stickers from the WAGGGS shop!

4 World Centres Western Hemisphere minibook

Happy World Thinking Day!  I know....I did not get around to doing my Thinking Day post.  Time {and colds and family} has a way of sneaking up on us doesn't it?  So I thought I would atleast post something.  Hopefully, some of you will be able to use this in the future.  I edited my 4 World Centres minibook to make it usable by all WAGGGS Western Hemisphere countries, not just Canada.  So here it is, kinda late!

The above version is the result from an email with New Zealand Guider, Anna. {Hi Anna!...it is amazing that I get to converse with Guiders from all over the world because of this Blog!} Anna liked the original version of my minibook but inquired about changing it to suit her country.  It was simple to change so I had offered to do the edit.  Anna had sent me an image to replace my Canadian content...CWFF page...and this is the result...an Asia Pacific Region version.  I aim to make one for each WAGGGS region.

Well, that's all for today my friends.  Happy World Thinking Day to all 10 million of you! Wow that's alot of members!  Have a fun day Saturday!

Mini Thinking Day Passport

I made this Mini Thinking Day Passport for Commissioner Pat in BC.  Pat saw my mini booklet on Owl & Toadstool and thought it would be something they could use for an upcoming event.  In her email she said

"I have just come across your site and I love it.  I am working on a passport for our Area camp, and I am thinking that your mini book would work great.  I would like to add another set of pages to it though.  Would you share your template for your mini book so that I can add some more countries to it".

However, the mini book template only has six pages plus front and back cover...and does not allow for any additional pages.  So, I thought I would make one for her..easy peasy!

Pat directed me to a fantastic site MakingFriends.com that has Girl Scout activities {I have used this site for several years for various projects..it is awesome!}.  One of the activities on Making Friends is a passport for Thinking Day.  I saved the images for the countries that Pat requested and created a Mini Thinking Day Passport. {The mini passport that I made for Pat has a different cover featuring their Area Crest..it turned out really nice and Pat was pleased!}

I found this illustration of how to fold a mini book on Pinterest...sorry I did not save the location! So if this is your handiwork please leave a comment!

Four World Centres Mini Book

Hello friends! It's getting close to that time of year when Guiders are frantically searching for activities to use for a Thinking Day themed meeting. One idea that I like to do with my Girl Guide unit each year is to teach them about world guiding and the Four World Centres.  I made this Four World Centres mini book along with posters of the Four World Centres ,and other info, to be used in a round-robin style meeting. I originally made it about 6 or 7 years ago and have made minor changes to the photos and content over the years.

*Update* I have an updated edition of the World Centres mini book here which includes the fifth World Centre.
If you would like to request this file please email

The Girl Guides look at the posters
and fill in the info in the mini book

This book can be used in the World Guiding Lapbook or on it's own.  It may be a little tricky to explain the folding directions but it really is quite simple once you make one. See the folding directions at the end of this post.

This is what the mini book looks like before folding and cutting
The coordinating posters pdf is also available upon request.

 I am happy to share Guiding
activities with Sisters in Guiding!

Guides Promise Mini book

Hello ! I'm back for another exciting and fun GUIDING YEAR!  This is the beginning of my 17th year as a leader...plus I was a Guide for two years. That's 19 years membership with GGC!  This year I am not leading both Brownies and Guides...just gonna do Guides and help out the Sparks and Brownies when needed.  We have 14 Guides and 1 Pathfinder girl assistant...that is double membership from last year.  We are busy selling cookies and getting ready for our kick off Campfire.

I am still working on my craft room chaos {see post here..sorry it's not ready for the blog yet!}  I do, however, have pdf files available for anyone interested in doing the Girl Guiding Lapbook{You In Guiding or World Guiding Badge lapbook}.  See the original post here.  Just leave a comment with your email address and I'll see if I have what you are looking for.  I am always interested in seeing where my ideas are being used.

Here are a few samples of what I have been working on to be used in the Lapbook.

Guides World Guiding Badge Lapbook

GGC WORLD GUIDING BADGE

The Guides earned the "World Guiding" Badge last week. {This week we are off because of March Break}.  This badge took a while to earn.  We did parts in February and March.  We also completed the "You In Guiding" Program Area badges.  We combined both "You In Guiding" with the "World Guiding" badge and created a World Guiding Lapbook. {A Lapbook is a file folder filled with mini booklets and activities}.  If you have any questions about Lapbooking please leave a comment.

Underneath the image of LBP are more collage photos {found through google search}
This is a Puzzle...the circle is folded into 4ths then one fourth is glued to the Lapbook so that it can be opened.  The Puzzle pieces are in a mini baggie attached with a paperclip. Remove the paperclip then open the circle then add the pieces. {not sure where I found this puzzle}
This may be left as a puzzle for future use or the pieces may be glued on

The back of the card explains the parts of the World Flag
Promise and Law Wordsearch folded and glued to Lapbook so that it can be opened
One square of the page was glued to the Lapbook to keep it in place
This is a colouring sheet of Uniforms fan folded into a Mini Book {found in the Guide Programme book 1985}
The colouring sheet of Uniforms is quite long...
a fan folded Mini Book works well
One end of the fan fold was glued to the Lapbook to keep it in place
A GGC Bookmark was clipped to the back flap
A second folder may be attached to the back flap if doing the Canadian Guiding Badge.  In this case I would have info about Casa Loma, Lady Pellatt, the GGC Cookie Story, and other GGC history.
I had precut and pre folded most of these items.  It would take a really long time if the girls did all the cutting and folding.  I would rather do the prep work and allow more time for the girls to learn about what they are gluing into the Lapbook.  This took the Guides about an hour to complete..spread over a couple of meetings.

The Girl Guides in Wartime layered book was an entire meeting in November.   The passport booklet was from our Thinking Day celebration.  The colouring of the uniforms and the wordsearch are meant to be done at home.

The Guides expressed that they thought this was a really cool activity!  That is enough motivation to keep doing Lapbooking at Guides!  {I would suggest only doing 2 per year since it is time consuming}.

I will soon post other Lapbooks that we did in previous years at Brownies .
