Back in the fall 2013, Canadian Guider magazine {Communications Coordinator Mary Vincent and Editor Sharon Jackson} contacted me to see if I would do an article for their spring issue. They wanted to publish an article on how Guiders might adapt old ideas and find new ones when they are not very crafty or are just tired of crafts, and also how to get out of a crafting rut. So I said I would love to! I had never done anything like this before except for the first time I did a blogger interview with Canadian Guider magazine here. I didn't realize that my words and photos would end up being two full page spreads Wow!
Get Crafty! Tips to Get Out of a Crafting Rut. Canadian Guider Spring 2014 vol.84 no 2 pages 34-35 |
I had sent a bunch of photos of my craft ideas from over the years and they selected quite a few for the article Get Crafty!. Some of the photos were already posted on Owl & Toadstool over the past couple of years so you may recognize a few.
This paper Brownie doll in the old orange uniform sporting the former two finger sign could easily be adapted to suit the new uniform and hand sign. On the bottom left you can see my Guider Smashbook.
Wow! They did an awesome job on the layout! {as they do throughout the magazine!} This reminds me of a smashbook page and scrapbook papers! It is really neat to see my creations published like this. Thanks so much Canadian Guider magazine!

Then, back in February 2014, Canadian Guider's Editor, Sharon Jackson, contacted me again because she loved the post on Owl & Toadstool featuring my dancing caterpillar pompom craft. So that led to another double page spread in their Spring 2014 Ideas to Go section Spring Fun! {Please note that the tic tac toe craft was not my original idea...I had found that idea in a craft magazine}.
Spring Fun! Ideas to Go. Canadian Guider Spring 2014 volume 84 no 2 pages 36-37 |
I came up with this pompom craft idea for my Brownies ages ago when I was Brown Owl...well maybe not ages ago...about 8 years ago...ok maybe that was ages ago ! LOL
I created this Patrol Emblem Memory game idea more than 10 years ago. The emblems are still the same, thank goodness, but the trefoil logo has since changed. GGC logo now has a border around the trefoil.
This felt tic tac toe game was fun to make. Not my original idea but I can not remember which magazine it was from...possibly Pac-O-Fun. It closes up into a drawstring bag that holds the pieces inside.
And the last of my craft ideas in Canadian Guider Spring 2014 Ideas to Go section... Clothespin pompom Caterpillars. I've used this craft as a memo/note holder but the article says A Happy Hat Craft. It works both ways i'm sure. It has a magnetic backing. The article left out the magnetic strip in the materials needed but that is ok. I used double sided foam tape to adhere the magnet to the clothespin. This craft was another "made ages ago" craft when I was Tawny Owl. {I have been Night Owl, Tawny Owl, Brown Owl, Guider Lee Ann, Guider Brown Owl...so many names! but I answer to all of them LOL}
Here is another craft in the magazine's Ideas to Go section. Not my idea, I did not submit this craft but I would love to make one. At one of my previous jobs, I had to provide supplies for making a kite from paper for an unknown number of kids of all ages at the Farmers Market ... I had an assembly line of directions so that it required little guidance ...and so that my head would not appear to be on a swivel! I don't know how many kids went home with kites that day but they were a hit...paper kites really do fly!
I tried to find the Trefoil Kite Instructions at memberzone but was unable to find it. If anyone has the exact link please leave a comment.
This Girl Guide cookie box wallet was another craft in the Ideas to Go section submitted by Linda Calverly... based on a Girl Scout youtube video. This is a cute idea for all of those empty cookie boxes...which many of us may have after this spring's cookie campaign!
Well, that's all for today! Back to my regular scheduled program !
I am busy getting things ready for a yardsale at my mother's house this coming Saturday. She is raising money for a trip to Florida with the Cape Breastoner's Dragon Boat team. The Cape Breton, Nova Scotia team will be heading to Sarasota Florida in the fall for the international Dragon Boat Festival!
Hubby and I are also busy working on my new craft studio/garden shed! It is a labour of love that is for sure! Here is a sneak peak photo...
This was taken in November 2013...the weather got way too cold and snowy so work came to a hault. You can see all the soon to be evicted crap materials still inside. So now that it is spring 2014 we are working on it again...but it has been really cold here! I say we but mostly he is doing all the work LOL. I am finished with my craft room makeover...it has been way too long for that project too..a post that I had promised to all of you last year! just gotta find my round 'tuit before I do that post!
A special thank you to Canadian Guider magazine and it's Editorial Committee! I look forward to reading your fantastic magazine from cover to cover each season! Have a nice day !
