Girl Guides and Scout Doodles

Hello there! Long time since I did a post on here!  tsk tsk tsk! It has been a roller coaster ride this past year with hubby changing jobs and moving twice. I am currently without a Guiding Unit for 2017 but hopefully we will be moving to a new town soon so that I can get back into Guiding! {Maybe I'll be moving to your town!} However, I have still been sending my files all over the world to many Owl & Toadstool fans ...and I've been doing a few doodles to keep me in the Guiding spirit!

Colouring is a fun and relaxing activity!  Not only do I like to doodle but I also enjoy colouring them too.  This is a calm and quiet activity for the Girl Guides {and Guiders} to do at home, at camp, or to fill in time at weekly meetings.

10 Therapeutic Benefits of Coloring Books for Adults...
"Coloring is not just an activity for keeping kids occupied; we only associate it with children.  In reality, coloring books and coloring pages for adults are also extremely therapeutic and can help generate wellness, quietness, mindfulness and the exact same benefits which meditation imparts on the brain."

If you are interested in obtaining the pdf files of my doodles then you may email me {leeannfraser at hotmail dot com}.  Please be specific when requesting a file.  The file name is in "parenthesis" in the caption under each doodle.

Girl Guide Doodles

Helloooo
Owl & Toadstool viewers
Happy New Year!
Wishing you a happy and healthy 2015

The cold has hit Canada with a vengeance. It was a green Christmas for most Maritimers with temperatures as high as +15 Celsius on Christmas Day but then New Year's day was -15 Celsius or colder.  For the past couple of weeks it has been freezing COLD here...with windchill as low as -25 Celsius on some days.  There has been snow in this area where as other parts of the Province have seen more rain than snow.  Not as much snow as usual but good for outdoor skating and skiing.

Although the cold weather offers fun outdoor activities it also forces us to stay indoors and to entertain ourselves in other ways.  A person can only brave the elements for so long before retreating inside for warmth and hot chocolate! I like to tap into my creative side during this time. Here is what I have been up to...

DOODLING
with Tangles and Dangles

I do not claim to possess any type of talent for drawing but doodling is so much fun to do. This could be something that the Girl Guides could do as part of badge work or to include in a Smash book or Lapbook or any other type of memory book. The amount of detail depends on the doodler.  I think it would be neat to make Thinking Day cards with personalized doodles!
GGC Trefoil  rubber stamp

I used a trefoil stamp that I had purchased at the former NS Guide store years ago to make a stencil.  This allowed me to trace the trefoil pattern since I am not very good at drawing the trefoil.   I could have just stamped directly onto the doodle with ink but I wanted to have the outline of the trefoil so that it could be coloured different colours.  This stamper creates a solid image.

If you do not have a stamper then you could make a stencil from any trefoil pattern.  Since I wanted to use the image multiple times I decided to make a stencil.  I stamped on {junk mail} paper then covered it with clear tape so that I could reuse it. Then I used an Xacto knife to cut away the image.  You could use either the positive or the negative pattern pieces for a template.

And now for the fun part...Colouring!

Santa Claus left a bunch of Sharpie Markers for me this past Christmas since he knew that I was a good girl LOL Santa knows that I like to be creative.

Since I used Sharpie permanent markers I had a limited colour palette and I wanted to use the colours of Guiding...pink for Sparks, brown for Brownies, blue for Guides, green for Pathfinders, red for Rangers, and blue for Adults.

The words "Girl Guides" are doodled with dangles
If you are interested in Doodling with Tangles and Dangles there are numerous ideas on Pinterest which link to many websites on the subject.  Do a search for Zen Tangles and you will be mystified!

Happy Doodling!

Guiding and Scouting Printables

Hello friends!
Thought I would share with you a very useful and fun site called
This site provides parents, teachers, and group leaders with free activities for kids.  They have printables, colouring, puzzles, crafts, holidays, topics, games, and a new shop.  Under the tab "topics", they have a Scouting and Guiding section.  Many of you may have seen some of their  activities on Pinterest, such as this one, "Learn How to Draw Robert Baden-Powell".

A while ago, I had pinned this drawing sheet to my Pinterest board "Crafty Girl Guides" for future reference.  I did not venture onto the original site until today after reading an email from UK Guider Owl Gayle {Hi Gayle!}.  Gayle had used the BP drawing sheets as part of her Baden-Powell meeting with her Brownies and had sent me the link.  So today I checked out the original site. Here are some of the pages that I had found! {I combined the files for display purpose on this blog...they are available for individual PDF download on Activity Village}.

There are other Baden-Powell worksheets available for download there too.
These activities would be fun to include in Lapbooks.

The site also has information on Robert, Agnes,  and Olave Baden-Powell, and has Thinking Day activities so please check out Activity Village for yourself.  You may never know what you will find useful for Guiding!

Hope you are all enjoying your Summer so far.  The weather has been a bit on the cool side here in Atlantic Canada but this week it is warming up !  Have a nice day!

Keep calm posters

Have you seen those Keep Calm posters that are all over Pinterest? I ♥ those posters!... so I made one...and had so much fun that I had to make more... CRAZY I know! The clipart {except the flowers and tree} are from GGC.  I will probably just use these in my Guider Smashbook, or maybe use the cookie posters during cookie sales,  perhaps give them to the Guides for scrapbooking or make them into a magnet craft.  Not exactly sure what I will use them for...they are just for fun!

Check out their Pinterest boards too!

  I ♥ it! Thanks Jodi

KEEP CALM and have a nice day!

Community Art- Girl Guide tree sculpture

"Guiding in Colchester County began in 1915.  This sculpture has been created to commemorate our guiding members past and present.  We celebrate the women who have generously given their time and talents, and to the girls who have and will benefit from this organization in the years to come."

This Tree Sculpture was featured in the Nova Scotia Girl Guide newsletter, Coastlines, a few years ago {or maybe more??}.    I had been in Truro several times over the years and had known that a GGC sculpture existed but hadn't noticed it until this past weekend.  It is located at 34 Queen Street Truro.  The street was fairly busy when we were there so these are the best pics taken. {next time we will cross the street and photograph the plaque}.

Antigonish has a few of the Tree Sculptures around town. If you are interested in seeing those tree sculptures go to this link:
